Utilizing these steps and staying on track will get you long-term… | By Kayleen | I’m a professional organizer and specializing chronic clutter and ADHD. If you struggle with clutter, I’m going to teach you my four-step method to make decluttering and organizing possible for everyone but first, I want you to understand that this is a struggle that a lot of people are far too familiar with. You are not alone. There are many reasons, valid reasons that things pile up and start accumulating and it to be so much, we’re overwhelmed and we start shutting down. I’m going to show you what my team and I do in my four-step declutter core method and hopefully you can gain some insight and apply these steps at home. Always focusing on one room at a time. Our first step is collect. We collect any trash and items that do not belong in the space. We use these sorting bins to help us categorize and contain the items that don’t belong in the space so each bin is given a room led the office bin or kids bin, kitchen. We collect those items and then just move them to the area in the home that they belong to then be addressed later once we’re done with the bedroom. Now that we’ve cleared out space, we’re ready for step two categorize. Starting with clothing and using our core categories. We are simply collecting our likes with our likes. I want the client to be able to see all of the T-shirts, all of the jeans so then they are prepared for step three, cut out. This is where the client makes decision on each item. It’s either a yes you keep it or no it goes. They utilize my three second rule. If you don’t know what that is, go check out my page and we repeat this process. So we pull out a category and then go through and do the decluttering and cut out. Go through the category cutout. And we repeat that until everything has been gone through and then we’re ready for step four contain. This is where we create that system of organization by giving all of those categories a home. All we keeping the categories together. So, all of the T-shirts go into one drawer. All of the shoes are in one area. All of the purses belong on one shelf and every space is going to be organized differently and it has to be customized for your needs and what you own. If you want to be successful, you need to pair down and declutter so everything fits comfortably in the storage that you have and then, customize it to meet your needs. Once the layout is figured out and everything is in its home, it time for the final reveal. If you don’t remember, this is what we started with and for this, it was a six-hour day with a team of three. Here is our after.
